Hello and welcome, everyone! My name is William Sahely and I am now the Director of Steelbands here at Leon High School! Having spent the past 9 years at Raa Middle School, I am so excited to continue building upon the Tradition, Pride, and Excellence of Lion Steel. It is not lost on me that Lion Steel is one of the oldest curricular steelbands in the entire country and I can’t wait to continue to grow that legacy!
I’d like to formally welcome two groups of people over to Leon Lion Steel:
Please join me in welcoming our Raa Freshmen! Students who have taken any number of years in Raa Steel will be joining up in our new “Advanced” freshmen ensemble, Jouvert. A select number of the incoming Raa freshmen were chosen to be moved into the Bacchanal ensemble, so congratulations to them!
I’d would also have you join me in welcoming our new to steel students! These students will be in our “Intro” steelband, Jumbie.
Finally, I’d like to say hello again to all of the current Lion Steel students that have stuck it out and continued “Jumpin’ Up” in Lion Steel! Thank you for your continued presence in Lion Steel! I can’t WAIT to start making music with you! I am so very, very excited to see you all again and get the chance to be your teacher. If you know of ANYONE who is a current Leon Lion and has stopped playing in Lion Steel, reach out to them and tell them to get back on the train: we’re going to be doing great things, and they’re going to want to be part of it!!!
